Tree Pose

One foot rooted, the other to the ankle or inner thigh. Fix your gaze.

How to do it

Root one foot down, then place the other sole against the ankle, calf or inner thigh — never against the knee itself. Fix your gaze on a still point at eye level and hold for five breaths before changing sides. Balance failing is part of it; step down and go again.

SeatedSeated, one ankle crossed over the opposite knee, spine tall.

What it does

Balance is grounding — and grounding is exactly what a scattered Vata day needs.

When you'll be given it

The Vata protocol, and on days the check-in reports scattered energy.

Where it comes from

Gheranda Samhita 2.36.

Take care

Never rest the foot on the side of the knee joint. Use a wall for the first few weeks.

Not sure whether it suits you? Ask a Vaidya.

There's no button here to start this. Your practice is prescribed each morning — that's what keeps the dose honest.
