Mountain Pose

Stand still and tall. Weight even across both feet, crown lifting.

How to do it

Stand with the feet hip-width and the weight spread evenly across both soles — front, back, inner and outer edge. Let the crown lift while the shoulders drop, and breathe eight slow breaths without shifting. It looks like standing still; it is a full-body alignment check.

SeatedSeated tall, both feet flat, spine long — the same work.

What it does

The reference posture. Everything standing is measured against this one.

When you'll be given it

Opens standing sequences in every protocol.

Where it comes from

Named in the later hatha texts as the base standing posture.

Take care

If you feel unsteady, stand within arm's reach of a wall.
