Kriyā Kosha

Kapālabhāti

Kapalabhati

Sharp exhales from the belly, passive inhales. Bright and quick.

20 breathsKapha

How to do it

Sit tall and exhale sharply through the nose by snapping the belly inward, letting the in-breath happen passively on its own. Do twenty of these, then let the breath return completely to normal before considering another round. Start with a single round and add rounds over weeks, not days.

What it does

Clears the head quickly — the fastest way out of a heavy Kapha morning.

When you'll be given it

Kapha protocol, mornings only.

Where it comes from

Hatha Yoga Pradipika 2.35, listed among the shatkarmas.

Take care

Not in pregnancy, with uncontrolled blood pressure, heart conditions, hernia, or after recent surgery. Stop at any dizziness — that is a signal, not a milestone.

The engine already leaves this out of your practice if your profile flags pregnancy, hypertension uncontrolled, recent surgery.

Not sure whether it suits you? Ask a Vaidya.

There's no button here to start this. Your practice is prescribed each morning — that's what keeps the dose honest.
