Kriyā Kosha

Bhrāmarī

Bhramari

Humming breath. Cover the ears, let the sound be low and long.

8 breathsVataPitta

How to do it

Sit upright, close the ears with the thumbs and rest the fingers lightly over the eyes. Breathe in through the nose, then hum on one low steady note for the entire out-breath. Make each round quieter and longer rather than louder.

What it does

The humming settles a loud head faster than silence does.

When you'll be given it

Pitta protocol on high-irritability days.

Where it comes from

Hatha Yoga Pradipika 2.68.

Take care

Not with an ear infection, and press on the ear cartilage rather than into the canal.
